European Year of Education through Sport (EYES – 2004)

2004 was designated as European Year of Education through Sport (EYES - 2004). The European Commission selected for financial support approximately 185 EYES projects at local, regional, national and trans-national level.

The main objective of EYES was to focus attention on the importance of sport in an educational context. [More information]

These are some of the aims of EYES –

  • To raise the awareness of sports organisations of the need for co-operation to develop education through sport.
  • To focus attention on the positive contribution made by voluntary work to informal education, particularly for young people.
  • To encourage the exchange of good practice in the context of the potential role sport can achieve within education.
